GRANBY ARTISTS ASSOCIATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Six years ago, a handful of local artists grouped together to plan a town wide tour designed to show their art and their studios to Granby neighbors and friends. While the first event was wildly successful, none of them foresaw how the Granby Artists Association would grow and how, in a few short years, the tour would attract visitors from all over Connecticut and western Massachusetts. As always, this year's Open Studio Tour will be held on Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 11 and 12. The group is now 35 members strong and the tour will have 26 participating artists showing quality work in 16 locations. There will be many demonstrations going on at the various studios. You can try your hand and see how oil paint feels when applied to a large canvas, watch a watercolor painting develop as washes are applied, see a still life oil in progress, or watch hot steel being hammered into different shapes and sizes by a sculptor. Three jewelers will be at one central location, one of whom will demonstrate a new material, bronze precious metal clay. The Granby Artists have been very productive this year and have won awards in juried shows all over Connecticut. One is an artist in residence at the New Britain Museum of Art. They are represented in galleries from Avon to Fairfield, Kent to Cape Cod. Granby residents needn't drive all over the state to see them, though. Why not set aside a day on Columbus Day weekend and experience the beautiful art created right here in Granby. The J. Valle Brunelle Gallery will once again be exhibiting a piece from each participating artist and will have maps of the tour available. Signs to the locations will be posted around town guiding you to the locations. Visit the website at www.granbyartists.org for a preview of the lovely work or to print a map of your own. The association is grateful to the Greater Hartford Arts Council for their generous support of the event through a Neighborhood Arts and Heritage grant. Granby is in north central Connecticut, a two hour drive from Boston and a three-hour drive from New York City via scenic Route 8. Questions? please contact Joanne at 860-844-0277 .
